Hosted by the Soil Chemistry Specialty Committee of Soil Science Society of China (SSSC), and organized by the State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Treats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products (SKLASAP), an academic symposium on soil chemistry and environmental health was held in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, from Sept 23 to 25, 2023, with 520 attendees from universities, research institutes, companies and government units.
SSSC vice secretary-generals Zhu Yongguan, Li Fangbai, and Yan Weidong attended the symposium.
During the plenary session, Zhu Yongguan briefed on the relationship between heavy metal pollution and bacterial pathogenicity. A futher 17 reports were presented by professors from multiple universities and institutes, including the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Huazhong Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University.
To promote exchanges and foster cooperation in soil chemistry, four themed sessions were organized to facilitate discussions on the “Plant-soil interface process & fertility increase”, the “Soil components interactions & microbial ecology”, the “Geochemical process of soil elements & soil health”, and the “Soil pollution prevention and control & biological health”.
Additionally, five sideline forums were organized specifically for young researchers and graduates.
