Xin Baoan, chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and president of the China Electricity Council (CEC), met with Boris Tadic, former president of Serbia, at GEIDCO's headquarters in Beijing on May 31. The two sides exchanged views on promoting green and low-carbon energy transitions and facilitating international cooperation.

Xin Baoan briefed the former president on the Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) Initiative and GEIDCO's main work.

According to Xin, in recent years, China has been at the forefront of clean and low-carbon energy development, with its cumulative installed capacity of wind power, photovoltaic, and hydropower reaching 1.47 GW.

Meanwhile, China has stepped up the construction of large-scale new energy bases and adjustable power supply facilities like pumped-storage hydropower stations in deserts and wasteland areas in its western regions.

On the energy consumption front, China has seen continuous improvement in the electrification level of society, with the proportion of electricity in its end-use energy consumption exceeding 29%. Further efforts will be made to accelerate the development of smart grids, clean heating systems, smart electric vehicle (EV) networks.

Xin Baoan expressed hope for both sides to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and enhance the global reach of the GEI initiative.

Boris Tadic congratulated China on its remarkable achievements in the energy and power sector, highlighting that the GEI initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping not only helps promote energy transition and sustainable development but also creates huge value in environmental protection, social harmony, and human well-being.

He called for enhancing the connection between energy and critical aspects of human survival and development, including clean water, food security, digitalization, and artificial intelligence, to unite people in all countries.

Moreover, Boris Tadic demonstrated his commitment to solidifying and deepening the friendship between the two sides.
