Zhang Jiabao met with Qu Dongyu
Qu Dongyu, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held a bilateral meeting with Zhang Jiabao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and president of the Soil Science Society of China (SSSC), along with his delegation, at FAO Headquarters.
Qu said that soil is a critical component of both national economic development and natural resources, underscoring the need to attach greater importance to it. He also introduced the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) as a crucial FAO platform that brings together experts, business representatives, NGOs, and other stakeholders to collaborate on soil protection and management.
Zhang expressed gratitude to the director-general for his warm reception and elaborated on China's 3rd national soil census, which aims to evaluate and analyze soil quality across the nation.
Qu highlighted the crucial role of sci-tech advancements in propelling the development of soil science, as well as the importance of supportive policies and measures.
Both sides expressed hope to enhance mutual cooperation.
