Conference highlights healthy soil and its sustainable utilization

The 2024 Conference of SSSC Specialty Committee on Soil Biology and Biochemistry & Symposium on the Cultivation of Healthy Soil and its Sustainable Utilization took place in Changchun, Northeast China's  Jilin province from June 16 to 18, 2024.


The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Geography and Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGACAS), the School of Geographical Sciences, Northeast Normal University (NENU), and the National Key Laboratory of Black Soil Protection and Utilization (Preparatory).


The opening ceremony was presided over by Chu Haiyan, chairman of the SSSC Working Committee on Soil Biology and Biochemistry, concurrent with welcome speeches delivered by Jiang Ming, IGACAS director, and Wei Min, NENU vice president.


The event saw more than 30 experts deliver oral reports on the latest research, technologies, and trends in soil biology, as well as the strategies for cultivating healthy soil and ensuring its sustainable utilization. Furthermore, a training session was conducted to share knowledge of microbial ecology and biological information with attendees.


This symposium played a positive role in maintaining the biological function of soil, enhancing the productivity of terrestrial ecosystems, reinforcing their environmental services, and securing the health and sustainable development of soil ecosystems.
