He Junke, Executive President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and Lidia Arthur Brito, Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences of UNESCO, recently held talks in Paris, France, and signed a letter of intent for cooperation.
They reached agreements on enhancing the scientific literacy of global citizens, building international engineering capabilities, and promoting open science cooperation.
After the signing ceremony, He and Brito addressed a roundtable discussion on empowering the global community through scientific literacy.
While stressing that the development of human society poses challenges to technological advances, He noted that only by means of enhancing scientific literacy of the general public can consensus be enhanced, divides be bridged, and governance synergy be formed.
He concluded by stating that the CAST is always ready to contribute to enhancing global scientific literacy, translating common values into common actions. The CAST will strengthen exchanges and share views with international counterparts to achieve the goal of empowering the global community through scientific literacy.
