The 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum (TSF) is set to take place from Dec 6 to 8 in Tengchong, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, bringing together global Nobel laureates, academicians, esteemed scientists, university presidents, exceptional young researchers, and prominent entrepreneurs and financiers.
Themed “Science·Global Innovation and the Mission of Scientists–Empowering High-Quality Development,” the forum features an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, and 11 sub-forums such as the University President Forum, the Young Scientists Forum, the Industry Innovation and Development Forum, the Entrepreneurs Innovation Forum, Lancang-Mekong Regional Sci-Tech and Cultural Exchange Activities, the Forum for Biodiversity and Modern Agriculture, the Life Science and Holistic Health Forum, the “Technology + Finance” Forum, Women in Science Forum, the Artificial Intelligence Forum, and the Culture and Tourism Innovation and Development Forum.
The TSF was launched in 2022 under the auspices of Gu Binglin, former president of Tsinghua University; Xu Zhihong, former president of Peking University; and Rao Zihe, former president of Nankai University. The initiative is a collaborative effort by the People's Government of Yunnan Province and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), with support from Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University.
The forum, under the guidance of “Science and Technology Leading the Future,” is dedicated to inheriting the spirit of the National Southwestern Associated University, promoting the spirit of science and scientists, and establishing platforms for the exchange of advanced academic ideas, interaction between government, industry, academia, and research, technology transfer, and scientific cooperation between China and South and Southeast Asian countries.
As of 2023, the forum has facilitated more than 100 investment promotion projects with a total investment exceeding 62 billion yuan. These projects cover key regional industries such as digital economy, biomedicine, advanced equipment manufacturing, modern logistics, and food and consumer goods processing, according to Science and Technology Daily.
