Leaders from over 10 overseas Chinese sci-tech associations gathered in Tianjin from Dec 29 to 31 for an exchange event aimed at promoting collaboration and establishing representative offices in the city.
Themed “Welcoming the New Year, Discussing the Future, Promoting Cooperation,” the three-day event featured a series of activities, including visits to the Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park, inspections of overseas returnee-led enterprises, and roundtable discussions.
A key symposium held on Dec 31 focused on the establishment of representative offices in Tianjin by overseas Chinese sci-tech associations and the development of offshore innovation and entrepreneurship.
Officials from the China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange signed a memorandum of cooperation with leaders from the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology and other Tianjin-based authorities to jointly build a representative office cluster for overseas Chinese sci-tech organizations in Tianjin.
Following this, representatives from the Beijing and Hebei Association for Science and Technology highlighted the importance of promoting international sci-tech collaboration within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region in their speeches.
Leaders from overseas Chinese sci-tech associations, including the Central and Eastern Europe—China Science and Technology Exchange Association, shared insights on how representative offices can better serve as bridges for overseas talent to contribute to China’s development.
A keynote speech was delivered by representatives from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Research Institute at Nankai University, exploring ways to strengthen international sci-tech cooperation and offshore innovation to support the coordinated development of the region.
The event also recognized newly approved representative offices with official certificates, and unveiled a new insurance service plan tailored for overseas talent entrepreneurship.
With the support and guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology, Tianjin is establishing a cluster zone for overseas Chinese sci-tech organizations within the National Offshore Entrepreneurial Base for Overseas Professionals (Tianjin Binhai).
This initiative aims to integrate resources, innovate policies, and optimize services, providing a convenient platform for overseas Chinese sci-tech organizations to operate legally and effectively in China.
