Q&A session of the 13th China Hall of Science and Technology Forum
The 13th China Hall of Science and Technology Forum, held in Beijing on Dec 28, sought to cultivate advancements in biotechnology.
The forum brought together industry experts and 150 leaders from central ministries, national agencies, and state-owned enterprises.
Xiaoliang Sunney Xie, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Lee Shau-kee Professor of Peking University, presented advancements in genomic medicine, emphasizing single-cell genomic sequencing technologies and their applications in addressing genetic diseases and identifying viral antibodies. Additionally, he proposed strategies for future pandemic readiness.
Yuan Yingjin, director of Frontier Science Center for Synthetic Biology (Ministry of Education), discussed the rise of synthetic biology, large-scale gene synthesis, intelligent automated cells, and DNA digital storage.
In the Q&A session, participants held an in-depth discussion on natural product biosynthesis, the development and application of gene editing technologies, and other topics.
