The 2024 Macao Science and Technology Awards ceremony was recently held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. A total of 22 projects received honors, alongside 30 postgraduate students recognized for their contributions to scientific research.

Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) Sam Hou Fai, Director of the Liaison Office Zheng Xincong, and Commissioner of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao SAR Liu Xianfa attended the ceremony and presented awards to the recipients.

The 2024 selection concluded with two teams receiving the top honor: one led by Professor Jiang Zhihong, Vice President of Macau University of Science and Technology, and another by Associate Professor Sun Guoxing of the University of Macau.

Tai Kin Ip, Macao's Secretary for Economy and Finance, highlighted Macao's growing research momentum and reaffirmed the government's support for increased investment, global collaboration, and a stronger innovation ecosystem, including initiatives such as the "Macau R&D + Hengqin News Aera Application" model.

Accepting the award on behalf of all recipients, Professor Jiang said the recognition honors past efforts while reinforcing the responsibility to drive future breakthroughs. In addition, he encouraged the local scientific community to work collectively in advancing sci-tech development.

Established in 2011, the Macao Science and Technology Awards were updated in 2024 to expand eligibility to Macao students studying science and technology overseas, with the goal of strengthening support for emerging scientific professionals.
