The second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, from June 10 to 12, announced Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, at a press conference in Beijing.
The conference, focusing on policy coordination, scientific exchanges, and technological cooperation among Belt and Road partner countries, will feature five major sections and 38 events.
The inaugural conference, held in Chongqing in 2023, established a high-level international mechanism for scientific collaboration. Chen highlighted that this year's event will further institutionalize Belt and Road sci-tech cooperation, characterized by a clear theme, broad participation, practical outcomes, and substantial expected achievements.
Over 100 countries and regions have actively registered to attend. The conference will create platforms for young scientists, policy dialogues, cutting-edge research, and industrial collaboration, fostering cross-border and cross-disciplinary exchanges.
Key outcomes include the signing of intergovernmental agreements on sci-tech cooperation, the launch of specialized innovation programs, new international mega-science projects led by Chinese scientists, and the establishment of technology transfer centers and joint research platforms.
China will also release technology lists for sustainable development and poverty alleviation, along with demonstration projects for advanced technologies. Additionally, institutional partnerships will be strengthened to integrate scientific innovation with industrial growth, ensuring wider benefits for participating nations.
The conference will include an opening ceremony on June 11, where China will initiate new mega-science projects and the "Double Thousand" sci-tech cooperation plan for the Chengdu-Chongqing region. A ministerial meeting on Belt and Road technological innovation will follow in the afternoon.
Li Wenqing, Vice Governor of Sichuan, outlined the five main sections: keynote events, thematic forums, specialized activities, roundtables, and technology matchmaking sessions.
