The inaugural Wiley Star Scientist Award ceremony was recently held in Beijing, recognizing the outstanding achievements of young researchers and supporting their future contributions to scientific advancement.

Launched in November 2024, the award aims to empower early-career scientists by providing a platform to showcase their work and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. A judging panel of 19 distinguished experts, supported by the journal ranking team at the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), oversaw the rigorous selection process.

From a competitive pool of over 500 candidates, five winners and 19 finalists were selected based on a comprehensive evaluation across four dimensions: scientific influence, technological impact, policy relevance, and societal benefits. Yang Liying, Director of the Metrics and Evaluation Department at the National Science Library, emphasized that the assessment criteria moved beyond traditional metrics such as publication counts and impact factors.

"Young scientists are the backbone of future research. The Wiley Star Scientist Award not only highlight their accomplishments but also build vital bridges for cross-disciplinary and institutional collaboration, driving long-term progress across scientific fields," said Zhang Moyi, Wiley Global Vice President and President of China, during the ceremony.

In a dedicated academic session, the five awardees presented their groundbreaking research spanning diverse fields including agricultural science, bioinformatics, nanomedicine, COVID-19 studies, and mRNA technology.
