The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) convened its 2025 UN Consultative Work Conference in Beijing on Jun 15.
The meeting reviewed the annual report on consultative work, with various specialized committees sharing experiences and proposing future plans. Luo Hui, Director-General of CAST's Department of International Affairs, attended the conference and delivered concluding remarks.
In alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, CAST's consultative committees hosted eight side events at major UN meetings in 2024. By mid-2025, seven more side events had been successfully organized at major forums, including the 10th Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs, the UN Ocean Conference, the 81st session of the UN ESCAP, and the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. These events provided valuable input on pressing global issues, including AI-driven development.
The conference highlighted the importance of drawing on the expertise of national societies and interdisciplinary experts to present China's scientific and technological achievements on multilateral UN platforms. Participants emphasized the need to share China's experience, wisdom, and solutions to strengthen the global presence of its scientific community.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity, while advancing the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. Participants also agreed on the importance of strengthening values-based leadership, refining strategic planning, prioritizing results-oriented actions, and investing in talent development to accelerate progress on sustainable development.
