The 28th International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2025) was held from June 16 to 19, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland. Guo Jianbo, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE); Hu Rui, Secretary-General; and Zhao Jianjun, Deputy Secretary-General, led a Chinese delegation of over 40 experts to attend the conference.

As one of the most influential international conferences in the field of power transmission and distribution technology, CIRED is held biennially. It attracts global experts, scholars, engineers, faculty, students, and corporate representatives in the field. The concurrent Power Distribution Equipment Exhibition is also one of the world's most influential exhibitions for technology and equipment in this sector. This conference brought together more than 1,600 registered participants and over 3,000 exhibition visitors from around the world to discuss cutting-edge technologies, innovative solutions, and industry trends in power distribution.

On the afternoon of June 16, Vice Chairman Guo Jianbo, Secretary-General Hu Rui, and delegates participated in the opening forum. Pierre Mallet, Chairman of the CIRED Board of Directors, delivered a welcome address outlining CIRED's structure and primary work, emphasizing its crucial role in promoting energy transition, sustainable development, the digital revolution, and social transformation. This was followed by keynote speeches delivered by ‌Benoît Revaz‌, Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), ‌Liang Ying‌, Director of the Distribution Research Institute, China Electric Power Research Institute, ‌Jan De Voght‌, Head of Electrical Infrastructure, European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and ‌Gilles Thonet‌, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

These speakers shared their latest research findings and industry insights. After the keynotes, three experts engaged in an interactive discussion with attendees, moderated by Fabrizio Pilo, Chairman of the CIRED Technical Committee.

During the conference, the Chinese delegation actively participated in various activities. A total of 29 papers authored by Chinese researchers were accepted, with some authors presenting their papers or participating in poster sessions. The delegation also visited the Power Distribution Equipment Exhibition, engaging in in-depth exchanges with exhibitors worldwide to learn about the latest distribution equipment and technological solutions. Huawei organized a technical seminar on its Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS).

Participation in this event further enhanced China's influence in the international power distribution field and laid a solid foundation for promoting Chinese distribution technologies and equipment globally. The CSEE pledged to continue actively participating in international exchanges and cooperation to contribute to the international development of China's power distribution technology. It was also announced that the CIRED 2026 Workshops will be held in Brussels, Belgium (June 9-10) and Seoul, South Korea (November 2-3), 2026, and the CIRED 2027 Conference will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 14 to 17, 2027.
