On July 2nd, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Youth Science and Technology Volunteer Service Summer Camp (Gansu Camp) grandly opened at the Lanzhou Dunhuang Art Museum, with 20 overseas Chinese young science and technology talents from around the world gathering by the Yellow River to embark on a seven-day Silk Road journey integrating technology exchange, cultural exploration, and volunteer service.
The opening ceremony commenced with the promotional film "Spring Tide in New Gansu," where representatives of the organizing committee emphasized that the camp aims to build a crucial platform for mutual learning between Chinese and overseas young talents, deepening cultural identity through immersive experiences of Chinese civilization and technological innovation, while encouraging participants to become new-era ambassadors spreading Chinese technology and culture as key forces in international cooperation. As a key hub of the ancient Silk Road, Gansu not only carries the millennia-long splendor of Dunhuang culture and magnificent natural wonders but also showcases a new landscape of high-quality development empowered by technology, with campers starting from Lanzhou to traverse the Hexi Corridor and personally experience the historical depth and contemporary vitality of the region.
During the itinerary, they will visit high-tech enterprises in Gansu, conduct academic seminars with experts and students from top domestic universities, and gain in-depth understanding of leading technologies and characteristic industries in fields like glacier permafrost, ecological restoration, cultural heritage protection, aerospace, and new energy, while deepening their appreciation of Chinese civilization's breadth and contemporary innovation through cultural immersion and volunteer service practices.
At the ceremony site, overseas young talents introduced themselves distinctively, showcasing diverse professional backgrounds and international perspectives, with these outstanding individuals from top global institutions—covering multiple fields and interdisciplinary disciplines—set to carry out volunteer services that integrate innovative wisdom into cultural heritage during subsequent activities. After the ceremony, campers took a group photo to mark the official start, and during the cultural experience session, they watched the ancient costume fashion show "Walking Dunhuang Murals" before visiting the art museum, where Gansu's profound historical accumulation and splendid cultural heritage deeply impressed first-time visitors, culminating in a commemorative "opening group photo" to freeze this moment.
Over the next seven days, campers will depart from Lanzhou to experience the inheritance and innovation of Chinese civilization through technological practices and cultural immersion, injecting youthful energy into international technology and humanities exchanges, with representatives from the China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE), Gansu Association for Science and Technology (GAST), Gansu Foreign Affairs Office, and Gansu Overseas Friendship Association attending the event.
