On May 30, 2023, the 7th National Science and Technology Workers Day was celebrated with the awarding ceremony of the National Award for Excellence in Innovation at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) , which was recently put into full use in China’s capital city Beijing.

Wan Gang, president of CAST, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Wan noted that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) clearly defined the vision, mission and tasks of promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a Chinese modernization path which was featured with the integrated deployment of education, S&T, and talents. This pointed out the direction for Chinese sci-tech professionals to serve the nation and the people through innovation.                                                      

Wan expected Chinese sci-tech professionals to enhance their thinking and action in building strength in science and technology, and participate in global sci-tech governance with a more open attitude, thus helping build an open innovation ecosystem with global competitiveness at the new historical starting point.

Under the theme of “Igniting your spirit”, celebration activities of the 2023 National Science and Technology Workers Day consisted of publicity and promotional activities of 147 scientist spirit education bases across the country, the announcement of the final list of the 8th CAST Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program, the launching ceremony of the second batch of 13 books on the theme of carbon dioxide peaking and carbon neutrality.

At the event, a program of telling stories of scientists in maker spaces, and a program of talking with science through media convergence technologies were jointly initiated by CAST and other relevant departments and enterprises. The Intelligent CAST, a web portal and cell phone APP, was officially launched.
