The 2024 China Overseas Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, themed "Innovation Leads the Future, Entrepreneurship Shapes the Blueprint", kicked off recently.
The event, jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the government of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, aims to advance the implementation of proactive, inclusive, and effective policies for overseas sci-tech professionals, strengthen international personnel exchanges, provide a platform for overseas professionals seeking to start businesses and engage in the modern industrial system construction in China, and foster the development of new quality productive forces.
The competition consists of 5 categories, each with a unique focus.
The Healthcare Industry category includes a range of topics such as biomedicine, high-end medical equipment, smart healthcare, life science, biological engineering, food safety, agricultural product processing, and elderly care.
The Digital Economy category encompasses various areas, including big data, blockchain, Internet of Things, virtual reality, digital agriculture, digital infrastructure, digital industrialization, and digital public services.
The Green and Low-carbon Technology category aims to encourage innovative solutions that support sustainability goals such as carbon neutrality. The related submissions may cover topics such as renewable energy development, energy storage, and recycling waste materials for new products.
The Advanced Manufacturing category seeks to recognize innovation in related sectors such as new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, and agricultural technologies.
The category of future industries and cultural and creative industries focuses on such themes as the next-generation mobile communication system (6G), AI, metaverse, big data, large models, blockchain, quantum information sciences, tourism, and cultural creativity.
There will be 14 competition zones for the 2024 edition, covering South Korea, Japan, and Thailand in Asia; Belgium, Finland, and Italy in Europe; Atlanta, New York, and Silicon Valley in North America; Cali, Columbia in South America, and Shenzhen as the only domestic competition zone.
Following its launch in April, the 2024 China Overseas Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition will be open for registration from April until May 31.
The regional preliminary contests will be held in June. The projects selected from the first to fourteenth competition zones will advance to the finals through online preliminary review, on- and offline defense, and other forms of sub-competition.
In mid-July, during the annual conference of the CAST, the final round of competition and award ceremony will be held, along with related activities such as project exhibitions and displays.
The Expert Review Panel of the event, comprised of representatives from such fields as science and technology, economics, investment, finance, and law, will assess all valid participating projects. After the Competition, finalists will be invited to participate in Overseas Entrepreneur China Tour events to engage in negotiations for cooperation and project implementation, supported by post-event services.
Additionally, the Organizing Committee of the Competition has extended invitations to the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and related organizations located in the Greater Bay Area to recommend outstanding projects.
