Themed “Green, Efficient, Intelligent and Reliable", the 2024 World Congress on Internal Combustion Engines (WICE) commenced in Tianjin on April 20, 2024.

Jointly organized by the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (CSICE) and Tianjin University, the 2024 WICE aims to propel the progress of low-carbon, zero-carbon, and engine technologies for carbon-neutral fuels, while promoting the advancement of new quality productive forces for human society.

Nearly 40 scholars, scientists, entrepreneurs, and experts from domestic and international backgrounds spanning 22 countries assembled to engage in discussions regarding the future development of internal combustion engines (ICE) and new energy in moving towards the achievement of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.

Wan Gang, president of the China Association for Science and Technology, spoke at the opening ceremony of the Congress. Other attendees who delivered speeches include Zhang Gong, Mayor of North China's Tianjin Municipality, Rick Boom, president of the International Council on Combustion Engines, CSICE President Jin Donghan who also serves as the president of Tianjin University, and An Tiecheng, chairman of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd.

According to Jin Donghan, the ICE industry, as the foundation of engineering, land transportation, and maritime shipping, is expected to play a crucial role in promoting energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

Keynote speeches were given by Huang Zhen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and other experts from China and abroad. The opening ceremony was presided over by Shu Gequn, CSICE vice-president.

Subsequent to the opening ceremony, an array of concurrent sessions took place, covering transportation energy consumption, intelligent control, and smart energy management methods, advanced combustion technologies for low carbon emissions, and other trending topics.

During a three-day academic exchange session, experts from the US, Germany, UK, Canada, Japan, Spain, China, and other nations delivered presentations on net-zero carbon engines, hybrid vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cells.

Meanwhile, 21 organizations that pioneer the combustion such as the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., Great Wall Motor Company Limited, the China North Engine Research Institute, and China Shipbuilding Industry Group Power Co., Ltd. showcased cutting-edge advancements.

The event also features young scientist salons, combustion technology experts’ forums, and technical visits.

The WICE was initiated by the CSICE in 2018. It’s a comprehensive technical exchange event for the internal combustion engine industry that is attended by countries, regions, and organizations across the world.

Held every three years, the Congress covers international academic exchanges, themed summits, display of technological achievements, exhibition of high-end products, technical visits, and other activities, aiming to provide a comprehensive platform for collaborative innovation and harmonious development of the global ICE industry.
