2023 China Science Communication Award presented

Themed "People-oriented Innovation and Enlightenment", and jointly sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), China Media Group (CMG), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the special TV program unveiling 2023 China Science Communication Awards lists was live-streamed via the comprehensive channel of China Central Television (CCTV-1) on April 14, 2024.


The event featured the announcement of the 2023 China Science Communication Awards, speeches delivered by science popularization experts, as well as interviews with the 2023 Award winners, showcasing the advanced achievements made in the fields of sci-tech development and science popularization.


Wang Hao, Li Yang, and Zhu Yongguan, among other academicians, participated in the program, sharing their experiences of disseminating science knowledge for the benefit of the public.


Chinese astronaut Wang Yaping elaborated on her journeys to outer space and the online lectures she delivered to Chinese teenagers from the spacecraft.


Furthermore, China’s first AI symphony - A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains - originally produced by the AI composition system of the Central Conservatory of Music was staged, with digital intelligent anchors as hosts.


Academicians and experts who participated in the "Science and China" lecture-tour campaign topped the 2023 China Science Communication special figures list.


Wang Hao, an academician of the CAE, and director of the State Key Laboratory of Simulation and Regulation of Water Cycle in River Basin, together with the content marketing team of the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) claimed the top spot on the 2023 popular science figures list.


Additionally, "The First Lesson of Public Safety" featured on the 2023 popular science works list, "One Minute Video Series about Nuclear" on the 2023 short videos list, "New Discovery of China's FAST" on the 2023 science popularization events list, and “Is it true that the higher the valent of the HPV vaccine, the better the preventive effect” was selected among the 2023 rumor demolisher list.


The program is a brand event in the field of science popularization under the guidance of the CAST. It has been held for nine consecutive sessions and played a positive role in the effort to enhance Chinese citizens' science literacy.  


A total of 184 units, including relevant ministries, central enterprises, national societies, provincial science associations, and online platforms made submissions for the program. The final lists were compiled through multiple rounds of discussions and evaluations.
